Marine Use Plans are detailed documents containing text, tables, maps, and images. They are created through marine planning processes.
Marine Use plans vary depending on their location and the people they serve. Different environments and different populations have different opportunities, conflicts, and priorities. While marine planning aims to guide the right development and activities to the right places, the “right” development and activities for an area depend on a range of environmental, social, cultural, and economic factors.
Within the Nunavik Marine Region, the Nunavik Marine Region Planning Commission (NMRPC) will work with its planning partners to create a Marine Use Plan tailored to the Nunavik Marine Region. The Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement (NILCA) describes the purpose of the Marine Use Plan for the Nunavik Marine Region as follows:
Purpose of the Marine Plan
To protect and promote the existing and future wellbeing of those persons and communities resident in or using of the Nunavik Marine Region, taking into account the interests of all Canadians and to protect and, where necessary, to restore the environmental integrity of the Nunavik Marine Region.
The Marine Use Plan for the Nunavik Marine Region will be available in hardcopy and online.
