The Nunavik Marine Region Planning Commission (NMRPC) is an Institution of Public Government (IPG) mandated to develop the Nunavik Marine Region Marine Use Plan (NMRMUP) for the Nunavik Marine Region (NMR) in accordance with the Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement (NILCA) and the planning principles, policies, priorities and objectives established by the NMRPC.
Devoted to protecting and promoting the existing and future well-being off Nunavik Inuit and communities in and using the Nunavik Marine Region
Our head office is located in Kuujjuaq, Nunavik, Quebec; one of 14 Nunavik communities. Our organization supports the sustainable use and development of a marine area used by over 10,000 Nunavik Inuit and another 4,000 Nunavik Residents; collectively referred to as Nunavimmiut, or People of Nunavik.
The NMRPC factors in economic opportunities, community needs, cultural priorities, environmental protection and integrity of the NMR into the development and implementation of a marine use plan, but generally as well in all of its activities and decisions.
The Nunavik Inuit Land Claims Agreement (NILCA) came into effect on July 10, 2007. It applies to the offshore region around Québec, Northern Labrador, and offshore Northern Labrador.
